As the world’s prominent piano builder, Steinway & Sons has throughout its history created unique pianos reflecting the customer’s dream. The Art Piano Department, initially headed by J.B. Tiffany who delivered a bespoke grand to the White House under Th. Roosevelt’s administration, continues to design and manufacture bespoke models in any conceivable style, utilizing diverse precious stones, a wide range of exotic woods, gold painting and gilding, hand-painted artwork… in short, whatever a customer can dream of.
Steinway & Sons works with some of the finest veneers transforming an instrument into an inimitable art case. Indeed, veneers as first-grade mahogany, walnut, kwazinga bubinga, East Indian rosewood, macassar offer a natural diversity in wood grain and texture, pattern and pigment. Nothing is impossible, and so can customers even bring wood from a tree grown on their property if wanted.
